Lasers Sweep JWU Invitational; Davis Earns Tournament MVP

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (1/28/17) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team kept its win streak alive this weekend, defeating MIT, Endicott, Bard, and Regis in the annual Johnson & Wales Invitational. The Lasers yielded just one set loss to Endicott College, and swept the remaining three teams in straight sets. The squad remains untouched in the 2017 season at 6-0 overall.

Senior Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) highlighted the event as the Tournament Most Valuable Player, while classmate Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Davis recorded two double-digit kill performances in the event, and used an outstanding .833 swinging percentage to lead the Lasers over Bard, 3-0. Collectively, Davis registered 40 kills, five blocks, and 45.5 points. Classmate Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) registered a whopping 20 kills in the Lasers' sweep of Regis College, and contributed 22 points for Lasell in the effort. The senior outside hitter tallied 38 kills overall, while classmate MacDonald closed out the weekend with 11 service aces, 35 kills, and 53 points.

Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) served as the Lasers' primary defensive specialist throughout the weekend, and hit the floor for 33 collective digs. Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) combined for 136 assists as Lasell's setter.

The Lasers are averaging 2.91 more kills per set than their opponents, and hold a .123 advantage in kill percentage.

Lasell enters another busy weekend starting Friday, February 3, when they travel to the University of Staten Island for a 7:00 p.m. contest. The Lasers will take on Stevenson, Baruch, and Ramapo the following day, with first serve slated for 11:00 a.m.
