Men's Volleyball Knocks Off Endicott and Daniel Webster

Nashua, NH - The Lasell men's volleyball team had a 2-0 outing this weekend against Daniel Webster College and Endicott College at the Mario Vagge Gymnasium. The Lasers took out the Eagles in the first match 3-1 before downing the Gulls in five sets 3-2. Lasell improved to 5-4 overall, Daniel Webster fell to 4-6, and Endicott moved to 4-5 on the season. 

Lasell 3, Daniel Webster 1 

The Lasers hit .371 as a team and racked up 61 total kills on the way to the 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17 victory. Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) led four players in double figures with match-highs of 17 kills and 16 digs while Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) knocked down 14 kills, Ryan Jackson (Canton, Ohio) posted 12 and Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) notched 11. Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) finished the match with 52 assists. 

The Eagles were led by 13 kills, nine digs and five aces from Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska.), and Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) who added 11. Tommy Reyes (Providence, R.I.) chipped in with nine kills and 10 digs while setter Nate Makaiwi (Las Vegas) posted 39 assists and nine digs. DWC hit .260 and combined for 47 kills. 

MacDonald knocked down seven kills in the first set for Lasell while Jackson and Vautrin posted four apiece in the second. Lasell saved its best for last, hitting .452 in the fourth with Vautrin notching five kills on seven attempts.

Afoa and Howdeshell notched four kills each in the third set, as DWC hit .500. Howdeshell followed with five kills in the fourth. 

Lasell 3, Endicott 2

The Lasers took the opening set, saw Endicott rally to capture the next two, but answered in the fourth and fifth for the 25-23, 25-27, 19-25, 25-22, 15-9 decision.

Vautrin was again solid, knocking down a match-best 25 kills and hit .370 while MacDonald posted 17 kills. Davis had a lights out performance as well, hitting .824 (14-0-17), while Glenn dished out 55 assists and Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) posted 13 digs.

Endicott was paced by 20 kills and 12 digs from John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.), while Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) added 15 kills. Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) picked up 13 kills and Jeremy Doski (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished with 12. Cameron Little (San Diego, Cal.) handed out 53 assists.

Both teams hammered away on each other with Lasell hitting .399 and Endicott hitting .313. Endicott finished with a 71-69 advantage in kills but Lasell posted 17 combined blocks to nine for the Gulls.

The Lasers return to action on Tuesday, February 9 to take on the national ranked Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology with first serve slated for 7:00 p.m.
