Men's Volleyball Comes Up Short at Kean Tournament

UNION, N.J. (1/30/16) – The Lasell men's volleyball team fell victim to three top competitors in the annual Clash at Kean Tournament this past weekend in the Harwood Arena. With the loss, the Lasers fall to 2-4 overall.

GAME ONE – LASELL: 0 KEAN: 3

With just nine errors in the match, Kean powered past the Lasers by set scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-21.  Senior Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) registered 10 kills for a team-best 10 points, while senior Dalton Whitman (Meriden, Conn.) contributed nine points with eight kills and a service ace. Senior Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) served up 27 assists in the effort, as freshman Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) held down the defense with 13 digs.

GAME TWO – Lasell: 2 RUTGERS-NEWARK: 3

The Lasers improved their performance in the second match of the tournament, taking Rutgers-Newark to five sets. Rutgers stole the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-21, before the Lasers came out on top on sets three and four, 25-17 and 25-23.

Vautrin again led the charge with 22 kills, three service aces, and a block assist for a match-high 25.5 points. Junior Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) was just behind with 20.0 points on 15 kills and four block assists. Aprea registered 10 digs defensively in the effort, while junior Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) swung into a game-high four aces.

In the final set of action, both teams traded opening points before Rutgers advanced on five errors from the Lasers combined with a service ace from Corey Piper to come out with a 15-9 victory. 

GAME THREE – Lasell: 0 STEVENS: 3 

The defending NCAA Champions took out the Lasers in three straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-14 to finish out the tournament. Vautrin was able to counter 12 kills in the effort, with MacDonald following with five kills.

The Lasers will welcome Emerson College on Tuesday, February 2 for their home opener with first-serve slated for 6:30 p.m.
