Men's Volleyball Sweeps Senior Day Matches; Earns #5 Seed in GNAC Tourney

NEWTON, Mass. (4/5/14) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team capped their regular season with a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference victories, knocking off Emerson College 3-0 in their first match of the day and capping the tri-match with a 3-1 win against Albertus Magnus. Emerson picked up a 3-0 win against Albertus Magnus in the second match of the day at the Lasell Athletic Center. The Lasers finished the regular season with a 19-10 record overall and an 8-8 mark in GNAC matches, Emerson finished at 11-14 on the season and 6-10 in the league while Albertus Magnus wrapped up their season 11-12 for the year and 5-11 in conference contests.

Lasell 3 – Emerson 0

Lasell avenged a five set loss to Emerson in an earlier meeting with a three set win by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22. Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) tallied a match-high 15 kills for the Lasers, Ryan Jackson (Massilon, Ohio) added seven kills and 10 digs and Matthew Dionne (Danville, N.H.) finished with seven kills and two and a half blocks in the win. Andrew Glenn handed out 33 assists and Drew Caruso and Jeff Vautrin each added five kills for Lasell.

Jackson Wiley tallied 14 kills and 10 digs for Emerson, Dmitri Gorenc added nine kills and Jared Gross notched 14 digs for the Lions  in the loss.

Emerson 3 – Albertus Magnus 0

Emerson knocked off Albertus Magnus in three sets, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21 to finish the GNAC tri-match with a split for the day. Emerson got 11 kills form Jackson Wiley and 10 kills from Ben Hillman in the win, as Brendan McGonigle orchestrated the Lions attack with 38 assists.

Raul Rivera-Rojas tallied a match-best 13 kills for Albertus Magnus, Glenn Johnson and Joshua Turner chipped in seven and six kills respectively.

Lasell 3 – Albertus 1

Lasell bounced back after dropping the opening set of the match, 25-18 to win three straight sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-18 to earn the 3-1 victory. Dan Raffol finished with 13 kills, 11 digs and four service aces, Ryan Jackson tallied 10 kills and nine digs for the Lasers. Tristan Davis added a career-high seven kills in two sets of action and Tim Anderson added six kills and six digs as Lasell took the victory in their final regular season. Sophomore Andrew Glenn dished out a season-high 50 assists in the victory.

Raul Rivera-Rojas tallied a match-high 15 kills to go with nine digs for the Falcons, who got nine kills from Justin Tharau and 14 digs from Douglas DeSousa in a losing effort.

Lasell earned the #5 seed in the GNAC tournament and will travel to #4 seed Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday April 8th, while the Lions claimed the #6 seed and will visit the #3 seed Emmanuel College on Tuesday April 8th as well.
