Men's Volleyball Wins Third Straight with 3-0 Win vs. Elms

NEWTON, Mass. (3/4/14) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team won their third straight match, defeating visiting Elms College 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The Lasers claimed the straight set victory by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17. The win pushed Lasell to 9-4 on the season while Elms slipped to 4-11 for the 2014 campaign.

Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) finished with a team-high eight kills while hitting .467 for the match with five digs and Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) added seven kills on 10 total attacks and five digs for the Lasers. Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) handed out 29 assists as the hosts hit .358 for the match to grab the win.

Bryson Rainey tallied a match-high 17 kills for Elms while Kordel Latimer added seven kills and Kevin Welsh dished out 29 assists.  

Lasell opened the first set with three straight points and never lost the lead, allowing Elms back within one point on several occasions the last one 10-9. The Lasers scored three straight again to take a 13-9 lead and controlled the action the rest of the way to take the set 25-20.

Elms went on top 2-1 in the second set on a kill by Rainey but Lasell responded with 11 of the next 13 points to take a 12-4 lead and they cruised to a 25-17 victory to go ahead 2-0 in the match. The third set was a back-and-forth affair in the early going with Lasell holding a slim 10-8 lead. The Lasers ran off four straight points to take a 14-8 lead and never allowed Elms closer than four en-route to another 25-17 win in the set and the three-set match victory.

The Lasers will visit Albertus Magnus on Thursday March 6th for a GNAC match before heading to the York College Invitational on Friday March 7th and 8th.
