Men's Volleyball Wins Pair over Regis and Anna Maria

NEWTON, Mass. (3/1/14) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Anna Maria in their first match in three sets before coming back and defeating Regis College in a non-league tilt in the third match of the day, 3-0 as well. Regis picked up a 3-1 victory over Anna Maria in the second match of the afternoon. The Lasers stand at 8-4 for the year and 2-2 in GNAC play, while Anna Maria dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference action and Regis evened their record at 7-7 overall and sport a 1-3 record in the New England Collegiate Conference.

Lasell vs. Anna Maria

The Lasers used a balanced and efficient offensive attack to earn the three set victory over the visiting AMCats, 25-11, 25-19 and 25-10. Senior Matt Dionne (Danville, N.H.) paced the Lasers with eight kills and four total blocks and Anthony Allen (Grafton, Mass.) added six kills. Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) chipped in five kills while Julius Rosario (Stoughton, Mass.) and Dalton Whitman (Meriden, Conn.) each tallied four kills for Lasell helping the Lasers to hit .324 for the match. Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) and Matt Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) each handed out 14 assists in the contest.

Dylan Copeland (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with five kills and a match-high seven digs to lead Anna Maria, while the visitors got four kills apiece from Peter Griffenkrantz (Deer Park, N.Y.), Jonathon Gallardo (Marlborough, Mass.) and Ty Discoe (Pittsfield, Mass.). Michael Gaudelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied 10 assists for AMC while adding six digs.

Anna Maria vs. Regis

Regis College captured a four-set victory over Anna Maria in a non-conference match-up, defeating the AMCats by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21. The victory marked the third of the season for Regis against Anna Maria, and the second time they won in four sets.

Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led the way for Regis with a match-high 20 kills and four service aces while adding 13 digs in the victory. Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with 14 kills, 2.5 blocks and a match-best 19 digs for the Pride while Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 41 assists in the contest and Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) notched a match-high four total blocks.

Dylan Copeland paced Anna Maria for the second straight match with team-highs of eight kills and 10 digs. Ty Discoe added seven kills and two total blocks for Anna Maria and Michael Gaudelli handed out 20 assists.

Lasell vs. Regis

Lasell closed out their second victory of the afternoon with a straight set victory over visiting Regis College. The Lasers knocked off the Pride by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-10 behind a .232 hitting percentage and 13 service aces in the match.

Drew Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) keyed the Lasell attack with six kills, three aces and two total blocks, Abdulrehman Khan (Karachi, Pakistan) chipped in five kills, Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) notched six aces to go with three kills and Matt Dugan finished with a match-high nine digs.

Zach Sindoni tallied seven kills for Regis in the match and Joe Hanrahan totaled 10 assists as the visitors offense was stymied by Lasell at the net falling victim to seven total blocks which disrupted their rhythm.

Lasell will host Elms College on Tuesday March 4th at 7:00 p.m., Regis will be on hiatus until they return to action on March 12th when they visit NECC for Southern Vermont College, and Anna Maria will travel to GNAC opponent Mount Ida on Tuesday March 4th.
