Vautrin Leads Men's Volleyball to 4-0 Record at JWU Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (1/25/14) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team captured four straight victories at the Johnson and Wales tournament this past weekend. The Lasers opened play with a 3-0 victory over Regis College on Friday evening and followed with a 3-0 defeat of Keuka College. On Saturday the Laser earned their third consecutive straight set victory when they knocked off Southern Vermont College, and then they collected a 3-1 victory over CCRI to complete the tournament 4-0. Lasell sophomore Jeff Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) was named to the All-tournament team, tallying 31 kills in 10 sets of action.

Lasell vs Regis

The Lasers claimed the three set victory with scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20 over the Pride. Drew Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) paced the Lasers with 10 kills, Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) chipped in eight kills and three aces while Vautrin finished with seven kills. Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) handed out a match-high 28 assists and Ryan Jackson (Massilon, Ohio) recorded a match-high 11 digs.

Lasell vs Keuka

Lasell earned their second victory of the day with 25-10, 25-23 and 25-11 scores over the Storm. Vautrin posted a match-high eight kills in the match and Dalton Whitman (Meriden, Conn.) chipped in six kills. The Lasers also tallied 10 aces in the three set affair, including three apiece from Raffol and Julius Rosario (Brockton, Mass.).

Lasell vs Southern Vermont

The Lasers kept rolling on Saturday morning with a three set win over Southern Vermont College by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-21. Raffol, Vautrin and Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) each notched eight kills in the match, Matthew Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) dished out 28 assists and Ryan Jackson posted a team-high nine digs.

Lasell vs CCRI

Lasell dropped their first set and only set of the weekend against CCRI, before claiming a 3-1 win, 25-15, 25-17, 26-28 and 25-9. Raffol led the way with nine kills and Rosario and Vautrin each recorded eight kills. Andrew Glenn tallied 30 assists in the match, Ryan Jackson totaled a season-high 14 digs and Lasell combined to notch 11 blocks.

Lasell will play their home opener on Wednesday January 29th when they host Newbury College at 7:00 p.m.
