Men's Volleyball Has 2-2 Weekend at York College Invitational

Jamaica, N.Y. (03/9/13) - The Lasell College Men's Volleyball team completed a visit to York College's Invitational Tourament over the weekend picking up a pair of victories while playing four matches. Lasell opened with a 3-0 loss to  the eventual champions of Mount Olive College, who didn't lose a single set in the event. The Lasers then dropped a narrow 3-2 match against New Jersey City University, coming back from two sets down to force a fifth set. On Saturday, Lasell bounced back with a 3-1 defeat of NYU-Polytechnic and a 3-0 sweep of Wells College. Lasell is 9-7 overall on the season and will host GNAC foe's Rivier and Emerson on Tuesday Mar. 19th and Thursday Mar. 21st at 7:00 p.m.

Lasell vs Mount Olive

Lasell fell in straight sets to NCAA Division II Mount Olive College, 25-16, 25-19, and 25-6. Sophomore Aduhlrehman Khan (Karachi, Pakistan) paced the Lasell attack with six kills, while Alex Mill (Danville, N.H.) Matt Dionne (Danville, N.H.) and Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) each finished with 4 kills in the match. 

Lasell vs NJCU

Lasell lost a five-set heartbreaker to New Jersey City University, losing the opening two sets, 27-25 and 25-17, before rallying to force a fifth set with wins of 25-20 and 25-16. The Gothic Knights held of the Lasers in a nip and tuck final set to win 15-12.

Alex Mill notched 15 kills in the five set match, with Dan Raffol adding 11 kills for Lasell. Chris Burns (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallied a match-high 16 digs for Lasell, and Matt Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) helped coordinate the efficient Lasell hitting attack with 30 assists.

Lasell vs NYU-Poly

The Lasers rebounded from their early tournament struggles by defeating NYU-Poly in four sets on Saturday morning, 25-19, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-8. Sophomore Julius Rosario (Brockton, Mass.) posted a season-high 13 kills on 17 attacking attempts and had 3 solo blocks for Lasell, while Tim Anderson (Danville, N.H.) and Anthony Allen (Grafton, Mass.) each tallied eight kills to lead Lasell. Steven Ruhle Jr. (Cranston, R.I.) finished with a match-best 13 digs for the Lasers and Dugan and Ryan Jackson (Massilon, Ohio) dished out 24 and 19 assists respectively.

Lasell vs Wells

Lasell closed their weekend with a 3-0 victory over Wells College, defeating The Express 25-18, 25-19, and 25-19. Ten different players registered kills for the Lasers in the victory, led by Alex Mill with 8 kills and Dan Raffol with seven. Matt Dionne recorded three of the team's 10 solo blocks, with Anthony Allen and Drew Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) each tallying two solo blocks.
