Mill and Raffol lead Lasell to 3-0 Victory over Mount Ida

Newton, Mass. (03/05/13) – The Lasell College men's volleyball team earned a three set victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Mount Ida College on Tuesday evening. Lasell used advantages of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22 to gain their first conference victory. The Lasers moved to 1-1 in conference play and 6-5 overall with the won, while the Mustangs dropped to 4-12 on the year and 0-6 in GNAC action.

Senior Alex Mill (Danville, N.H.) paced the Lasell attack with nine kills, and sophomore Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) added eight kills in the victory. Lasell finished with a .242 hitting percentage, while combining for four solo blocks and 12 assisted blocks to control the action.

Spencer Hastings (Orlando, Fla.) finished with a match-high 11 kills for Mount Ida, while Justin Rhoden (Corona, Calif.) netted six kills in the loss. Mount Ida tallied 24 kills in the match, but finished with 26 attacking errors for a -.025 hitting percentage on the night.

Lasell totaled 11 kills in the opening set with only a lone attacking error en-route to a comfortable 25-15 win in the opening set.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair that saw the set tied nine times, including at 21-21 before the hosts scored four of the final five points to go on top two sets to none.

The Lasers scored 10 of the first 14 points in the third set to go on top 10-4, before watching the visitors climb back into the match, scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take a 13-12 lead. A kill by Raffol sparked a Lasell run that saw the Lasers rip-off eight out of the next 10 points and take a 22-15 edge.  The Mustangs drew no closer than three points the rest of the way as Lasell closed out the 25-11 victory taking the match in three sets.

Lasell will visit Albertus Magnus College on Thursday March 7th before heading to the York Invitational on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th.
