Lasell Earns Pair of Wins in Non-League Tri-Match

Brookline, Mass. (2/23/13) - The Lasell College men's volleyball team improved their overall season record to 5-3 this weekend, as they were victorious against both Elms College and Newbury College.

The Lasers first match of the day was a 3-1 dual against Elms. Lasell won their first set in convincing fashion, 25-18. The second set proved to be a bit more challenging, but went the way of the Lasers, 25-20.  The Blazers denied Lasell a as they were able to claim the third set, 25-19.  The thrilling fourth set sealed Lasell's victory, 26-24.

Sophomore Laser Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) had a match high 16 kills, while teammate, Matt Dionne (Danville, N.H.) followed with eight kills.  Senior Chris Burns (Chelmsford, Mass.) lead all Lasell players with six digs.

The Blazers were lead by sophomore Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) who had 12 kills for the match.  Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) followed up with an 11 kill performance, while other notables like Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) had a match high 9 digs to accompany his 5 kills and Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) who had an impressive 31 assists.

The second match of the day saw Lasell faceoff against Newbury.  The Lasers narrowly dropped the first set, 28-26, but rallied by winning the next three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15. 

The Laser win was the result of a solid offense team performance with notable contributions again by Raffol who tallied 10 kills and 8 digs, and Chris Burns adding 9 digs.  Senior captain Alex Mill (Danville, N.H.) aided the winning effort as he registered 8 kills and 4 digs. 

The Nighthawks were led by freshmen Tyler Sayne (Tucson, Ariz.) who led his team with 10 kills to go with 4 digs for the match and sophomore Chi Yin Li (Framingham, Mass.) helped Newbury with nine kills, three aces, and nine digs.

The Lasers next match will be their home opener on Monday, February 25th as they take on the Eagles from Daniel Webster College at 7:00 p.m.
