Falcons Defeat Lasell 3-1, Earn Key GNAC Win

New Haven, CT – Led by 25 kills from Brendan Charamut (Southington, CT), the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team picked up a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday night as the Falcons defeated Lasell 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 31-29).

With the win, the Falcons improve to an impressive 17-6 on the year, while they move to 5-6 in GNAC play. Lasell falls to 9-15 overall and 3-10 in GNAC play. The Falcons cruised in the opener as they recorded 16 kills in 36 attempts thanks to the help of six kills from Charamut. Lasell struggled in the first set as the Lasers recorded eight kills and seven attack errors.

Lasell jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the second set and never looked back as the Lasers went on to win 25-18.

Albertus came back in the third set to take a 25-18 win as they fell to 9-4 early in the set before a swing in momentum gave the Falcons the edge. Led by six kills from Charamut, the Falcons tallied 16 kills in 37 tries en route to the victory.

The Falcons took the fourth and final set with a 31-29 hard-fought victory. Lasell opened up the frame with an 8-4 run before Albertus head coach Omar Ramirez called time out. The Falcons tied the game at 10 before play went back-and-forth the rest of the way.

There were 16 tied scores throughout the fourth set. After Lasell tied the game at 19 with a kill from Tim Anderson (Danville, NH), the Lasers went on a 5-1 run to take a 24-21 lead. Albertus battled back and tied the game at 24 on a Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) kill.

With the scored tied once again, this time at 29, the Falcons took a 30-29 lead on a Charamut kill before an attack error from Lasell secured the Falcons' 17th victory of the season.

Alex Mill (Danville, NH) led Lasell with 12 kills, while Tim Anderson added 11 kills and Dan Raffol (Natick, MA) chipped in 8 kills and 14 digs. Chris Burns (Chelmsford, MA) posted a team-high 15 digs on the afternoon, and Matt Dugan (New Lenox, IL) finished with 37 assists on the night.

Charamut led the Falcons with his kill tally as he hit .327 on the night. The sophomore added three assists and two digs as well. Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 50 assists for the Falcons as he added 15 digs and three kills as well. Johnson finished the night with 11 kills and eight digs, while Chase Brinton (Bethany, CT) contributed with 10 kills, two assists and 10 digs. Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, CT) added a 12-kill and 15-dig effort for the Falcons as he led his team hitting .360 on the night.
