Lasell Downed by Rivier in Three Sets

Newton, MA – The Lasell College men's volleyball team hosted 10th ranked Rivier College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match, and came out on the short end of a 3-0 defeat. Rivier remained undefeated at 8-0 in conference play and 18-8 overall after the win, while the loss dropped Lasell to 3-9 in the GNAC and 9-14 on the season.

The Raiders used an efficient hitting attack keyed by their superb defensive effort to pick up the three set victory, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-20. Rivier finished with a .299 hitting percentage, and 39 digs to 18 for Lasell. Chris Markunson (Cupertino, CA) led the Raiders with 10 kills on the night, and setter Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) collected 30 assists directing a balanced attack the saw six different players' finish with at least four kills. Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY) and Andrew Corwin (Framingham, MA) tied for the team lead with 8 digs apiece.

Alex Mill (Danville, NH) and Matt Dionne (Danville, NH) accounted for nine of the Lasers 10 kills, with five and four respectively while Chris Burns had a team best seven digs in the loss.

Rivier will host GNAC foes, Albertus Magnus and Mount Ida in a tri-match on Saturday March 31st with action beginning at 11 am. Lasell returns to action on Tuesday April 3rd when they will travel to Albertus Magnus looking to secure a GNAC playoff berth.
