Elms Tops Lasell 3-1 in Men's Volleyball Action

Newton, MA- The Lasell College men's volleyball team lost a difficult non-conference match-up to Elms College, 3-1. The loss drops Lasell to 7-7 on the season, and Elms improves to 12-6 after earning the four-set victory.

Alex Mill (Danville, NH) led the Lasers with 11 kills and three digs while his freshmen teammates Abdulrehman Kahn (Karachi, Pakistan), six kills, four blocks and Dan Raffol (Natick, Ma) five kills and 13 digs. Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) scored 18 kills and 9 Digs to lead the Blazers for the win. Stephen Cameron (Newington, CT) chipped in with 15 kills and 17 digs of his own.

Lasell started strong in the opening set, building a six point lead, only to see Elms came back with seven consecutive points to go on top. The Lasers responded with a 6-2 run and came out victorious in the nail-biting set 25-23.

Elm's came back in the second set to tie the match with a score of 25-14. The Laser's were unable to regain their momentum as Elm's took the lead 2-1 in the third match with a score of 25-19.

Pulling together, Lasell came out fighting in the fourth set.  The two teams went point for point early until Elms built a four point lead towards the middle of the set. Three straight errors and a big block by Lasell's Kahn and Vincenty Ithier (Newington, CT) helped tie the match at 17-17. After splitting the next four points, Elms tallied six of the final eight points winning the set and ultimately the match by a score of 25-21.

Next up, the Lasers will face SUNY IT at the Johnson and Wales tournament in Providence, Rhode Island on March 16th. The Elms College Blazers will host a NECC matchup against Endicott College on March 21st.
