Glenn Voted All-Tournament as Lasell Finishes 2nd at Johnson & Wales Invitational

Providence, RI- Freshman setter Andrew Glenn (Westport, CT) was named to the inaugural Johnson & Wales Invitational All-Tournament team as Lasell went 3-1 and took 2nd place at the tournament over the weekend. 

 

Lasell started the weekend by falling to eventual tournament winner Stevenson College who went 4-0 against all teams.  The Lasers dropped the match 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 18-25) against Stevenson.

 

Glenn handed out 38 assists in the match while Lasell got 46 total kills.  Alex Mill (Danville, NH) led the Lasers on the attack with 13 kills and Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) and Harry Strobel (Westport, CT) followed with 10 each.   Parker added a team-high 10 digs for his fourth season double-double and Glenn was a close second to Parker with nine digs.  Max Vaughan (Wethersfield, CT), Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) and Mill added six digs each. Aiu led the Lasers with three blocks. 

 

Lasell's first win of the weekend came on Friday night against hosting Johnson & Wales, 3-1.  Lasell won the first two sets 25-23 and the Wildcats came back to secure set three 25-19.  Lasell closed the match in four, 25-22.

 

Glenn dished 32-of-35 total assists in the contest, distributing a balanced offense which saw four hitters with eight or more kills.  Strobel led all Laser hitters with 10 kills, adding six digs and one block.  Mill and Parker each tallied nine kills, with Mill hitting a match-high 47.1% while also picking up a match-high 10 digs and adding three service aces.  Mike Harrington (Billerica, MA) notched eight kills, on 13 total swings with two errors, to hit a .462 clip in the match.

 

On Saturday, Lasell improved their record with a 3-2 triumph over New Jersey City University by scores of 22-25, 27-25, 25-15, 11-25, and 15-11.

 

Parker, once again, was the top hitter in the contest, putting away 17 kills and adding a contest-best 14 digs for his fifth season double-double performance.  Glenn also recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs. 

 

Strobel also registered double-figures in kills with 12 adding five digs and four blocks and Aiu put down eight balls for points, chipping in with five digs and four blocks.   Harrington lodged seven kills and a game-best five blocks.  As a team, Lasell recorded an impressive stat line of 24 total blocks. 

 

In their final challenge, Lasell swept City College of New York, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-13). 

 

Glenn distributed 35 assists in the game with Parker and Harrington teaming up for 22 of Lasell's 43 total kills.  Parker hit 12 of those points and Harrington knocked the additional 10.  Mill added eight kills and four digs and Aiu picked up a team-best seven digs in the contest.   Parker, Aiu, and Harrington combined for 10-of-12 total blocks on the team. 

 

The Lasers are now 18-13 this season and has three more regular season matches this season, all in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.  The first event will take place on Tuesday, March 22nd in a double-header with Albertus Magnus College which begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Athletic Center.  The match will also mark senior day for Mike Harrington and Micah Aiu who are playing in their final season with the Lasers this year.
