Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Soccer team took on GNAC opponent Mitchell College in this afternoons home opener, securing a 3-2 win over the Mariners.
The Lasers opened up the first half with a handful of offensive builds that fell short. In the 29th minute Lasell found themselves down 1-0 on a rebound goal by Gabe Ansani from the Mariners. However, the Mariners lead was short lived as just two minutes later graduate student Mpumelelo Maphumulo scored his first goal as a Laser. The match remained tied up 1-1 heading into the halftime break. Just 21 seconds into the second frame Maphumulo found the back of the net again, off a pass from Liam Thompson, making it a 2-1 Laser lead. Maphumulo would once again net a goal in the 51st minute off an assist from Michael Calabrese to give him a hat trick on the day. As the game drew to a close Mitchell fired one off another rebound shot, making it 3-2 and putting pressure on the Lasers down the stretch. However, the Lasers held on and took the win 3-2.
Up Next - The Lasers hope to continue the momentum in conference play as they take a trip to Saint Joseph's (CT) on Saturday afternoon.
