MSOC: Lasers push past Pride to collect first GNAC victory

Weston, Mass. - The Lasell Men's Soccer team took on cross-town rival Regis at Regis Stadium as they defeated the Pride 3-2 in a GNAC clash. The win improves the Lasers to 2-4-3 while Regis falls to 4-5 on the season.

Lasell got on the board first when junior Jaydon Perez (Amherst, Mass.) scored for the Lasers in the beginning of the first half at the 8:42 mark with Jonathan Martinez (Stonypoint, N.Y.) assisting on the goal. That goal marks Perez's third goal of the season. Regis would get on the board in the 15th minute when Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) with the assist from both Luke Ayotte (Cromwell, Conn.) and Aidan Falvey (Medford, Mass.) to earn his second goal of the year. The Pride would score again 10 minutes later when senior Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) netted his 1st goal of the season with the assist being from Falvey again. The Lasers tied it up to end the first half when Daniel Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) would net his 9th goal of the season toward the end of the 33 minute mark with the help of Martinez, who recorded 2 assists for the game. 

With both teams searching to get the lead, Lasell would get the lead for good. In the 64th minute, after two missed shot attempts, Michael Guzzone (Shoreham, N.Y.) netted in his 1st career goal to give the Lasers a 3-2 edge over the Pride. Regis had one last chance to tie it up with 10 seconds left but missed it just right.

Cameron McDonough (Melrose, Mass.) recorded 4 saves for the Lasers and Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) recorded 7 saves for the Pride along with Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) who earned 2 saves to give the pride 9 total saves. The Lasers had 19 shot attempts with 12 of them on goal and Regis had 17 shot attempts with 6 of them being on goal.

Lasell is back in action on Saturday morning when they take on Emmanuel College at Taylor Field as Regis travels to Chicopee, Mass. to take on Elms College on Saturday evening.
