MLax: Lasers Win Overtime Thriller

Plymouth, NH - The Lasell Men's Lacrosse team won their first game of the season over Plymouth State on Tuesday by a final score of 5-4 in overtime. The Lasers are now 1-2 on the season, while the Panthers are now 3-1.

In a low scoring game that was being played in unfavorable conditions, the Lasers scored first on an Adam Haytayan goal with three minutes left in the first quarter. Less than a minute later the Lasers doubled their lead on a Will McCarthy goal assisted by Nate Taggart.

Plymouth State would answer in the second, scoring just second into the second quarter. Haytayan would grab his second goal of the game with 10 minutes left in the half to put the Lasers up 3-1. But the lead would not last, as the Panthers would score twice in the final three minutes of the half to tie things up at three.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter, and the Panthers grabbed their first lead of the game halfway through the fourth. But the Laser responded immediately, and scored on a Landon Reyes goal assisted by Matthew Carbone. Neither team would be able to score again, sending the game to overtime. Just over a minute into overtime, Reyes would find the back of the net again to send the Lasers home as winners.

Reyes led the team with nine shots, while Haytayan was second with six. Tyler Rose led the team with six caused turnovers. Goalie Michael Catalano led the team with six ground balls and made 13 saves while picking up the win. Matthew Carbone won seven of the game's 11 faceoffs.

Up Next - The Lasers will next play against SUNY Cortland on Friday, March 10th. That game will take place at Western New England University at 1pm.
