MLX: Lasell comes back to down Gordon for 10th straight victory

, Mass. – Freshman James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) tallied three goals and an assist in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon as Lasell College scored all five goals of the final stanza to post an 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Gordon College in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Grellier Field.

The upset-minded Fighting Scots scored the first four goals of the game and led the whole way until Lasell's fourth-quarter rally. It was a 9-6 Gordon lead heading into the final frame, but Anderson started the comeback with a goal for the Lasers with 13:37 remaining. Sophomore Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) sliced the deficit to 9-8 with 12:45 on the clock, and Anderson set up senior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) for the tying goal with 9:33 remaining. Anderson did the rest, notching the game-winner with 7:52 to play and adding an insurance goal in the closing seconds.

Lasell won its 10th consecutive game to improve to 11-1 overall, matching the program record of 10 wins in a row set in 2012. The Fighting Scots drop to 3-9.

Anderson finished with four goals and an assist for the game, while sophomore Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two goals and two assists and Madden and senior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) contributed two goals and one assist each. Senior David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Senior Nick Tozier (Winston Salem, N.C.) led the Scots with two goals and three assists, including two goals and an assist in the first quarter as Gordon set the tone of the game with a 4-0 lead. Junior Jacob Hryzan (Lakeville, Mass.) and sophomores Tytus Moen (Agawam, Mass.) and Xander Miller (Shelburne, Vt.) added two goals apiece, and senior Luke Tremblay (Arlington, Mass.) picked up a team-high five ground balls.

Junior Ben Werner (Boxford, Mass.) continued his strong play on face-offs for Lasell, winning 15-of-23 and scooping up 12 ground balls. The Lasers also had more shots (44-27) and ground balls (39-17).

Freshman Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) made eight saves to earn the win in goal for Lasell, and junior Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) made a season-high 19 saves for Gordon.

The Lasers play their final three games of the regular season against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition, beginning with a key game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Lasell and St. Joe's share first place in the GNAC with 5-0 conference records. Gordon returns home to host the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Tuesday at 7 p.m.
