MLX: Lasell posts GNAC victory over Rivier

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) scored four goals and freshman Tyler Rose (Springfield, Mass.) equaled a school-record seven caused turnovers Saturday afternoon as Lasell College downed Rivier University, 18-7, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action at Grellier Field.

Lasell scored the first eight goals of the game, all in the first quarter, and Rivier never recovered. The Lasers went on to post their seventh straight victory, improving to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC. Rivier drops its second in a row to fall to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in conference games.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the second quarter, giving Lasell a 10-3 lead at the break. Rivier scored the first two goals of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 10-5, but the Lasers answered with eight consecutive goals over the next 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Madden finished with four goals and one assist, including two goals in the first quarter surge. Freshmen Jordan Hines (Essex Jct., Vt.) and Max Litchfield (Barrington, N.H.) also scored twice each in the first frame and junior Brendan Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) added one apiece.

Senior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) also got into the scoring act for Lasell with three goals and one assist. Hines finished with three goals, Buccheri had two goals and an assist, and sophomore Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) chipped in with three assists apiece.

Rose also picked up seven ground balls into addition to his program record for caused turnovers. Junior Ben Werner (Boxford, Mass.) won 14-of-17 face-offs and scooped up six ground balls.

Sophomore Dylan McSparren (Warwick, R.I.) led the Raiders with two goals and two assists while senior Colby Larsen (Windham, N.H.) tallied two goals and one assist. Seniors Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.) and Rob Fullerton (Wilmington, Mass.) chipped in with one goal and one assist each.

Freshman Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) and junior Ryan Janovic (East Lyme, Conn.) split time in the Laser goal, with Beauchemin making two saves in the first half and Janovic stopping nine shots in the second half. Senior Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) made 17 saves for Rivier before giving way to sophomore Jake DeStefano (Peabody, Mass.) for the final six minutes.

The Lasers will look to keep their momentum going on Tuesday, April 2, with a GNAC contest at Emmanuel College at 7 p.m. Rivier returns home to host Anna Maria College on Tuesday for a GNAC match-up at 7 p.m.
