MLX: Lasell rolls past Eastern Connecticut

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) and freshman James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) tallied three goals and one assist apiece Tuesday afternoon as Lasell College defeated Eastern Connecticut State University, 12-5, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at Grellier Field.

Susi scored two goals in the first quarter to help the Lasers to an early 4-1 lead. He added another one in the second quarter and Anderson scored twice as Lasell pushed its advantage to 7-3 by halftime. The Lasers tacked on a four-goal rally late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-4 before running out the clock on the Warriors.

Lasell posted its second straight victory over a Little East Conference school after defeating Plymouth State on Saturday, improving to 3-1 overall, while Eastern Conn. drops to 2-1 on the season.

Sophomores Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) and Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two goals and an assist each to the Laser attack, while senior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) contributed a goal and a two assists and freshman Jordan Hines (Essex Jct., Vt.) finished with a goal and an assist. Senior David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the defense with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Junior Anthony Choronzy (Milford, Conn.) led the visitors with two goals, and freshman Garrett Lapham (Trumbull, Conn.) posted a team-high two assists. Freshman Jack Lombardo (Berlin, Conn.) picked up a game-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers, and sophomore Taylor Stein (Milford, Conn.) led the way on face-offs, winning 10-of-17 attempts.

Freshman Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) earned the win (3-1) in goal for Lasell with five saves. Junior Jack Farrell (Stratford, Conn.) collected six saves for Eastern.

The Lasers begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday, March 16, with a visit to Regis College for a noon face-off. Eastern plays its fourth straight road match Saturday in a non-conference match at Clark University at 7 p.m.
