MLX: Madden leads Lasell past Plymouth State

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) scored six goals and assisted on another Saturday afternoon to lead Lasell College to a 13-6 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Grellier Field.

Madden tallied a natural hat trick with the last goal of the third quarter and the first two of the fourth. His goals we part of a six-goal surge that extended a 7-5 Laser lead to 13-5 with five minutes to play in the game.

The Lasers also got three goals from senior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine), two goals and one assist from freshman James Anderson (Medway, Mass.), and a goal and two assists from freshman Bash Cunningham (Norwalk, Conn.). Junior face-off man Ben Werner (Boxford, Mass.) won 13-of-17 face-offs and picked up seven ground balls, and Madden and junior Brendan Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) both collected five ground balls.

Senior David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Matt Barron (Newington, Conn.) led the defense three caused turnovers each. Freshman Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) was strong in goal with 10 saves on 16 shots.

Senior Chris Waterbury (Clinton, Conn.) led PSU with two goals, while classmate Jake Burns (Salem, N.H.) and Chase Mercier (Boscawen, N.H.) finished with a goal and an assist. Senior Sam McCoy (Dewey Beach, Del.) picked up a team-high six ground balls, and classmate Sean Peet (Glen Cove, N.Y.) recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior Zel Kerkel (Loudon, N.H.)  had a busy day in net and finished with 15 saves on 28 shots.

The Lasers, 2-1, are home again on Tuesday, Mar. 12, at 3 p.m. against non-conference opponent Eastern Connecticut State University. Plymouth State, 1-1, visits Curry College next Sunday, March 17, for a 2 p.m. matchup.
