Palazzo Powers Lasell to GNAC Victory over St. Jospeh's in Men's Lacrosse

Standish, Maine (4/6/13) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team picked up a 13-6 Great Northeast Athletic Conference road victory over St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon. Lasell improved to 5-5 on the season and 4-1 in GNAC contests with the victory, while the Monks fell to 5-7 on the season while taking their first conference loss to drop to 4-1 in the league.

Robbie Palazzo (Redding, Conn.) scored seven goals on 12 shots to pace the Lasers, Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) added two goals and two assists, and Andy Puopolo (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with a goal and three assists on the afternoon. David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned the win between the pipes for Lasell, stopping 12 of the 18 shots on goals he faced in the game.

Andrew Hamill (Wolfeboro, N.H.) scored twice and tallied an assist for St. Joseph's, and Jake Ricciardi (Sharon, Mass.) added a pair of goals for the Monks in the contest. Christopher Driscoll (Saco, Maine) took the loss in net for St. Joseph's, stopping 14 shots in the game.

Lasell's Aaron LaPorte (Gorham, Maine) opened the scoring just two minutes into the game put the Lasers on top 1-0. Hamill evened the game at 1-1 for the Monks with 12:27 left in the opening quarter and Dalton Eldridge (South Gardiner, Maine) scored an unassisted goal with 4:42 left in the first period to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Palazzo tallied for Lasell on a feed from LaPorte to tie the game at 2-2, before Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) scored with 38 seconds remaining in the first to give St. Joseph's a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Lasers came out firing to open the second period, scoring the first four goals to take a 6-4 lead. Puopolo started the run with an unassisted tally, and a pair of goals from Palazzo sandwiched around a goal by Mike DuPont (Dover, N.H.) put Lasell on top. Hamill scored his second of the game with 7:02 left in the half for St. Joseph's to bring the host back within two at 6-4 going into the halftime intermission.

Fernandes found the back of the net just 12 seconds into the third quarter for Lasell, giving the visitors a three goal advantage. Ricciardi netted his first of the game with 10 minutes left in the period to make it a two-goal game again. Palazzo then went to work over the final ten minutes of the quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to give Lasell a 10-5 lead heading into the fourth period.

Ricciardi scored his second of the game early in the fourth to close the Monks deficit to 10-6, but Lasell put the game away when Palazzo, Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) and Fernandes all scored over the final eight minutes of the game for the 13-6 final.

Lasell will be back in action on Tuesday April 9th when they host Anna Maria in another GNAC contest at 4:00 p.m.
