BSB: Lasers Best Judges 5-2 In Non-Conference Battle

Waltham, MA – The Lasell University baseball team defeated neighboring Brandeis 5-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The win propels the Lasers to 11-7 on the season, while the Judges drop to 4-10 on the year.

The Judges got going early on as a walk and a single up the middle left them with runners on first and second with Jake Freed at the plate. Freed would single through the right side to score Eddie Zanor from second and give Brandeis a 1-0 lead after one. Lasell would respond in the next inning as junior Jared Whitby singled to left field scoring Bryan Baumann to tie it up at one apiece.

Brad Edwards drove in two runs on the day, his first coming in the fifth inning as he singled past the shortstop to score senior CJ Mills from second base. Edwards would get his second RBI of the day later in the seventh, with runners on first and third, on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Mills again. The very next batter, Scott Lyon singled up the middle to advance Tim Callahan to second. Connor Freitas would be next up as he ripped a line drive that was misplayed by the left fielder and would lead to Lyon and Callahan scoring. After seven the Lasers led 5-1.

In the ninth the Judges would load the bases with no outs and a very long single from Jordan Greenway would score one and make it 5-2. Pierce Clare came in for Lasell with bases loaded and no outs and was able to get out of the jam and shut the door, striking out the final batter of the game and giving the Lasers the win.

Freshman Ty Lohsen got the start for Lasell, tossing four innings, allowing one run onn just three hits while walking three and striking out three. The Laser bullpen continued to be dominant in this one as senior Darek Lallo (3-0) picked up his third win of the season allowing just one hit in his lone inning. Brendan Zaleski, Owen Caldwell, and Ethan Bernardo all tossed scoreless innings as well.

Offensively for Lasell Edwards had two hits and drove in two runs, Jared Whitby also had two hits and drove in one run, and Lyon also added two hits. Mills, Callahan, and Ross Audet each singled and Baumann added a double.

 

Up Next – The Lasers travel to West Haven, Connecticut to face off against GNAC rival Albertus Magnus on Friday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
