WXC: Lasell races at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Lasell University women's cross country team continued the fall season Saturday afternoon at the University of Massachusetts Invitational, a large event featuring more than 35 schools at the NCAA Divisons I, II and III levels.

Sophomore Emma Murray (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior Amanda Miller (New Bedford, Mass.) were the top finishers for the Laser women, both placing the top 200 among the 263 competitors. Murray was first Laser across the line, placing 183rd in the 5K race in a time of 22:20, and Miller was close behind in 190th in 22:37.

Sophomore Grace West (Kennebunk, Maine), freshman Devin McCarthy (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore Shakira Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.) were the next three runners for Lasell to account for the team scoring. West was 214th in 23:41, McCarthy was 221st in 23:59, and Henriquez was 223rd in 24:02. Rounding out the Laser runners was sophomore Emma Vierling (Monmouth, Maine), 238th in 25:34.

The Laser women placed 32nd among 37 schools in the team scoring, just behind Massachusetts Maritime Academy and just ahead of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Johnson & Wales University.

The Lasers will compete again on Saturday, September 28, at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic in Williamstown, Mass.
