Women’s Cross Country Renders 4th Place Finish at Running Monks Invitational

STANDISH, ME-  Senior Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) and freshman Amy Santella (Cheshire, MA) took 6th and 8th place individual finishes respectively to lead the Lasell College women's cross country team to a 4th place team finish at the Running Monks Invitational on Saturday.  The meet was hosted by fellow Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competitor St. Joseph's College of Maine, who finished 3rd as a team (69 points), while GNAC favorites Johnson & Wales University earned a first place finish as a squad (50 points).

 

Lasell finished just five points behind St. Joseph's with a collective point total of 74 for the day.   The University of New England took second place with 67 points.

 

Top honors were secured by St. Joseph's Amber Dostie (Standish, ME), a freshman who was almost a full minute ahead of the rest of the competition.  Dostie's ending time was 20:10.02 while Page Wiechman of the University of Maine Presque-Isle earned runner-up honors with a time of 21:05.98.

 

Missett's sixth place finish was recorded in 21 minutes and 34.58 seconds while Santella's concluding time was 22:05.66.  Missett was the third GNAC runner to complete the course while Santella was the fifth, and the second rookie.

 

Jess Smith (Townsend, MA) finished 3rd for Lasell and in 19th place overall with time of 23:04.79 on the 5K course. Senior Amanda Driscoll (Roslindale, MA) and sophomore Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME) were the 4th and 5th to end the race for Lasell, securing 25th and 28th place individually.  Driscoll clocked a 23:55.98 and Carpenter crossed the finish at 24:15.15.

 

Christina Annicelli (North Easton, MA) and Samantha Mackie (Dorchester, MA) rounded out the scoring runners for Lasell.  Annicelli finished with a time of 25:46.53 and 34 points while Mackie ended with a time of 29:36.80 and 47 points.

 

Alaina Eldredge (Sandford, ME) and Kelly Pigott (Upton, MA) were also successful at St. Joseph's as they concluded the course in 31:06.66 and 31:59.24, respectively.

 

Lasell's three senior athletes will be honored next weekend on Saturday, October 15th during Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend at Lasell College.  The ceremony will commence at the halftime of the women's soccer game on Taylor Field, with an estimated start time of 12:45 p.m.  Missett, Driscoll, and Stephanie Greenblatt are the Lasers three seniors that will be recognized.

 

Following senior day, the Lasers will compete next on October 29th at the GNAC Championship, hosted by Emmanuel College at Franklin Park.
