
NEWTON, MA- The Lasers beat the Judges of Brandeis University for the first time since meeting in 2005, facing off ten times since then. A 3-1 win over the Judges leaves Lasell with a 5-1 record on the season.
Close to the entirety of the first set the two teams battled back and forth, staying within two points of eachother until the final three plays. Lasell fought back with strong performances from McKenna McCool and Eliana Baran. The set was tightly contested, but Brandeis clinched it 25-22.
Lasell adjusted their strategy and came out strong in the second set, taking advantage of errors from Brandeis. McCool and Baran were pivotal, with Baran delivering multiple kills. Lasell secured the set with effective play and fewer errors earning the lead early and taking a 25-18 victory over the Judges in an offensive-heavy set.
The third set of the night was the most competitive, going into extra points. Lasell ultimately edged out Brandeis in a tight 27-25 finish.
The two teams continued their back and forth battle. Lasell's strong play from McCool and Juliana Medini, and key defensive efforts helped them pull ahead. Despite a close finish, Lasell secured the match with a final push, overcoming Brandeis 28-26.
Baran lead the Lasers offense with 17 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. McCool followed with 14 kills on the match. Setters Sydney Katz contributed 22 assists on the match, while Trinity Silva tallied 18. Medini contributed significantly with key attacks and defense in the win.
Up Next: The Lasers will play again on Saturday, Sept. 14 for two non-conference matchups against Emerson at 12:30pm and UMass Dartmouth at 2:00pm, both at UMass Dartmouth.
