WVB: Volleyball Drop Heartbreaker to Rival JWU

Newton, MA - The Lasell Women's Volleyball saw their 16 game winning streak snapped by the JWU Wildcats on Wednesday in a five set loss, falling 25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 17-25, 13-15. The Lasers are now 18-2 on the season and 8-1 in the GNAC. The Wildcats are now 11-10 and 8-1.

After a close first set, that saw the Lasers come back from a four point deficit, the Lasers steamrolled the Wildcats in the second, taking a 2-0 set lead. But the Wildcats stepped up, and were able to force a fifth set by winning the next two sets. Despite trailing early in the fifth 7-4, the Lasers would score five of the next six points to take a 9-8 lead. But the turning point of the set, and ultimately the match came on the next point, when a miscommunication by the Lasers kicked off a 5-0 run by the Wildcats. The Lasers would respond with a 3-0 run to make it 13-12, but the two teams would trade the final three points, giving the Wildcats the win.

The Lasers were led by Juliana Medini on both offense and defensively, leading the team with 11 kills on 15 attacks, and eight total blocks. Madalyn Scully and McKenna McCool each had nine kills. Sydney Katz and Saige Cambonga-Meyers each had double-digit set assists with 23 and 11 each. Maddie Caro led th team with 22 digs, while Camila Lopez had 13.

The Lasers are now 1-27 all time against the Wildcats, with the lone win coming in 2011.

Up Next - The Lasers will head to Simmons on Saturday to take on the Sharks as well as Clark University.
