WVB: Lasers split in GNAC doubleheader on the road

Providence, R.I. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team competed in a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon, first facing the host Johnson & Wales Wildcats followed by the Albertus Magnus Falcons. The Lasers fell to the Wildcats in the first match 3-0 and bounced back by sweeping the Falcons in match #2.

How it happened: (Match 1)

Johnson and Wales came out the gate firing very early by jumping to a 9-3 lead, forcing Lasell to call a timeout. After the short intermission, the Wildcats pretty much controlled the first set as they would go on to take the set 25-12. In set #2, the Wildcats jumped out again to another 9-3 lead but Lasell would bounce back to make it a one point set (8-9) forcing JWU to call a timeout of their own. After the intermission, it was a pretty even contest as both programs traded blows with the Wildcats eventually taking the second set by a score of 25-22. In the last set, the Lasers took an early 7-4 lead but 6 straight points from JWU forced Lasell to burn a timeout. The Lasers kept it very close after that for a bit and it looked to be a closer set but the Wildcats gradually pulled away and swept the Lasers to finish the first match of the day.

(Match 2)

The second match started out close between the Falcons and the Lasers until the midway point of the set when they Lasers would go on a significant 5 point run to stretch the lead to 19-9 and ultimately the first set 25-15. The second set was dominated by Lasell as they controlled the set by having leads as large as 12 points in the set. They took the set by a score of 25-12. Set #3 ended up being a closer set then the previous two with the Falcons looking to fight back every single chance they could get. However, the Lasers held off any chances of letting the set slip away as they would go on to defeat the Falcons of Albertus Magnus in 3 sets.
