WVB: Lasers snag two GNAC victories in Boston

Boston, Mass. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team traveled to the Jean Yawkey center in Boston for a doubleheader versus GNAC host Emmanuel College and fellow GNAC foe Norwich University. Lasell won both matches as their first match went to five sets with them defeating the host Saints 3-2 and then defeating the Cadets 3-0 in their second match of today.

Match 1

The Lasers and the Saints faced off in the first match in which Emmanuel took the first set 25-20 registering 10 team kills to Lasell's 8. Then, the Saints would get the slight edge despite the Lasers' brilliant efforts to keep this 2nd set tight throughout. Trailing 2-0, Emmanuel was destined to look for the sweep. However, Lasell took it personally and decided to shift the energy. They quickly jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and were in control of the third set to ultimately climb back and give themselves a fighting chance. The fourth set could've went either way as the Saints were looking to put the match away for good by building some last-minute momentum even though they were trailing 21-20. However, the Lasers registered 4 straight points to tie it up. In the last set, the ending was a complete nail-biter for both programs. With the score being 15-14 and the Saints looking for one more point to close this out, Lasell used a timeout to shift the momentum as they registered 3 straight points to defeat the Saints and complete their comeback victory.

Match 2

The second match for Lasell happened right after their previous match with this one being against the Cadets of Norwich. Early on in the first set, Norwich took advantage of the lack of resting time Lasell had and quickly jumped to an early 9-3 lead. Then, Lasell gained a boost of energy as they gradually made their way back into the set and would slowly but surely take the lead for good as they went on to win set 1 by a score of 25-21. In set 2, the Lasers would jump out to an early 9-3 lead themselves as Norwich fought back in response to the early lead. However, two key runs by the Lasers gave them enough energy to defeat the Cadets in set 2. In the final set, the Lasers had enough energy to control the pace and score of the set as they went on to sweep Norwich in 3 sets.
