WVB: Lasers drop both matches to Nazareth and Geneseo

Rochester, N.Y. - It was a rough day for the Lasell Women's Volleyball team as they fell to Nazareth and Geneseo this time playing in the RIT invitational at Rochester Institute of Technology.

 

Match 1- Nazareth

In the first set, Lasell snagged the win 25-20 with the Lasers producing 9 kills and capitzaling on Nazareth's 10 attack errors. Hope McFall (Bellingham, Wash.) had 3 service aces and McKenna McCool (Loomis, Calif.) produced 4 kills for the Lasers in the set. In the second set, the Lasers struggled to commit successful attacks as they only produced 5 kills in the set as Nazareth defeated Lasell in the second set 25-14. The Lasers stole the third set 25-22 behind 3 kills from Juliana Medini (Roxbury, N.J.), and 2 apiece from Morgan Bogli (Vernon, CT.) and McCool, respectively. The Golden Flyers of Nazareth would take set 4 despite 4 kills from McCool, 3 from her classmate Camila Lopez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and 2 from her other fellow classmate Emily VanHouten (Rockaway, N.J.). The Lasers had 10 total kills in that set but it was not enough to secure the victory over the Golden Flyers. Nazareth would produce 11 team kills in the last set to sneak by with the 3-2 victory over Lasell. McCool led the Lasers in kills with 13. Madalyn Scully (Mauston, Wis.) led the way with 4 blocks. Emily Cerasani (Buena Park, Calif.) led the Lasers with 20 assists followed by Camelia Lopez (Barquismeto, Venezuela), who had 8 assists. Maddie Caro (Chula Vista, Calif.) had 18 digs to pace the Lasers defensively alongside Camila Lopez, who was right behind her with 17 digs.

 

Match 2- Geneseo

Despite the Lasers producing 16 team kills, Geneseo would snag the set 25-21. Camila Lopez led the Lasers attack with 6 kills in the set followed by McKenna McCool with 4 and Juliana Medini with 3. The second set was controlled by the Knights of Geneseo as they took the second set 25-12. The Lasers attempted to steal the third set but was unsuccessful in their attempt in doing so losing the third set and ultimately the match. Lasell was led on the attack from McCool and Lopez, who both accumulated 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Cerasani and Scully helped faciliate as well with 12 assists each for the Lasers. 

 

The Lasers will be back in action at the Athletic Center on Tuesday night when they take on non-conference opponent Fitchburg State.
