WVB: Lasers Fall the First Day in Clarkson Tournament

POTSDAM, NY-

Lasell v. Clarkson

The Lasell University Lasers women's volleyball team fell to Clarkson University, 3-0 in their first match of the Clarksonson Tournament Friday.

The Lasers kept it close in the first match, sending some strong serves over the net, leading Clarkson to have 9 service errors. They kept the score close towards the end of the set eventually tying it at 23-23, but could not pull through, ending the set 23-25.

In the second set, the Lasers kept it close in the beginning but the Knights eventually slipped away with strong performances from Allyson Treichel and Sara Galante, ending the set with a 9 point advantage.

Following their second set performance, the Knights came out strong again in set three. Clarkson took an early 7-0 lead, but Lasell used strong serving and eventually made their way back to a one point game late in the set. The Knights strong offensive play though ended the set 23-25.

Once again, it was a strong performance for some newly added Lasers. Saige Cambonga-Meyers (Springdale, Ark.) ended with 12 assists and 10 digs and Maddie Caro (Chula Vista, Calif.) recorded a solid 10 digs record. It was a strong offensive performance for some returning players, Camila Lopez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) ending the match with 9 kills. Madalyn Scully (Mauston, Wis.) recorded 4 aces.

Lasell v. Stevens

Lasell fell to Stevens Institute of Technology later in the evening Friday, dropping the match 3-1.

Stevens entered the match with a strong lead in the first set. A combined mix of attack errors from the Lasers and an efficient offensive performance from the Ducks, ended the set 25-12 in favor of the Ducks.

The second set was a different story, with a great amount of back and forth action, until half way through the set when Lasell was able to pull away, ending the set 25-17 in thier favor.

Mckenna McCool finished the third set with 5 kills but it was not enough to put the Lasers on top. Once again Stevens began to slowly pull away early in the set and Lasell could not get their footing soon enough. The third set ended 25-16, sending both teams into a fourth set.

The Ducks continued with a solid offensive performance in the fourth set, pulling away once again, ending the final set 25-12.

McCool led the Lasers in kills ending the match with 8 total. Lopez, again, had an overall great performance recording 6 kills and 9 digs. Juliana Medini (Roxbury, N.J) followed with 5 kills and 2 digs. Sydney Katz (Ridgefield, Conn.), freshman setter, led overall assist with an impressive 19.
