WVB: Cambonga-Myers' Double Double lifts Lasers over Leopards

NEWTON, Mass. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team pulled out a gritty win against the Leopards of Wentworth, winning 3-2 in sets to move to 2-2. Freshman Saige Cambonga-Myers recorded a double-double Tuesday night for the Lasers, putting up 21 assists and 13 digs. Her fellow classmate Maddie Caro had a strong defensive performance tonight with 24 digs, respectively. On the attack, sophomores Hope McFall and McKenna McCool had 10 kills and 9 kills to help pace the Lasers on the offensive side of the floor. The Lasers are back in action when they travel to Potsdam, N.Y. Friday in a doubleheader vs. Clarkson University and Stevens University.

The first set started out even until the Leopards jumped to a 11-4 lead. Then, the Lasers produced 8 straight points to take the lead 12-11, forcing the Leopards to call a timeout. After that, it was a back and forth between the Leopards and the Lasers with Lasell ultimately sneaking away with set #1 (25-21).

The second set was pretty even as well with both teams trading blows but after a Sabine Milton kill tied it up at 17 apiece, the Leopards capitalized scoring 8 straight points to end the second set 25-17 to tie it up.

In the third set, both teams started even until the Lasers jumped out to a 12-5 lead. As the match went on, it seemed as if every time the Leopards tried to come back, Lasell would respond ending their momentum. After Lasell went up 21-16, Wentworth took matters into their own hands as they scored 6 straight points and jumped out to a 22-21 lead. After trading points in the last few serves, Lasell would escape with the victory in set 3 after an attack error.

The fourth set was yet another even contest in the beginning until the Leopards broke out making a 14-11 lead to a 20-11 lead. As Lasell tried to push for a comeback, the Leopards focused in and took away any chances of a comeback winning set #4, forcing a fifth and final set.

This final set was played out very well as both teams looked to clinch a victory. With both teams going back and forth, it looked as if this set was going down to the last point. Leading 11-9, the Lasers capitalized as the Leopards committed three straight attack errors and then finally defeating Wentworth as Tori Scambray clinched the final set with a kill to put the Lasers over the Leopards.
