WVB: Lasell falls to Colby-Sawyer and Manhattanville in tri-match

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's volleyball team dropped both matches Saturday in the Athletic Center against Colby-Sawyer College (3-1), and Manhattanville College (3-0). 

The Lasers fall to 6-15 overall and 3-3 in conference after the two losses. 

Colby-Sawyer 3, Lasell 1

Sophomores Meg Roberts (Newington, Conn.) and Kiana Perez Diaz (Juncos, P.R.) both finished with eight kills in the first match. Juliana Denning (Lathrop, Calif.) added six kills while hitting at an efficient .278 attacking percentage. The Lasers defense was led by Perez Diaz with 18 digs and Denning who controlled the front row with 3 blocks. 

 The Lasers began the first set trading points with the visiting Chargers until around a 19-16 advantage. Denning and Perez both found the floor with a couple kills each to round out the set. Lasell would go on to win 25-21 with an attacking error from the Chargers.

 In the second set, Colby-Sawyer started to find their rhythm. They found consistency in senior middle hitter Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.). Cox finished the match with 10 kills while hitting .500%. With kills from Cox and freshman Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.) the Chargers took the set 25-20.

 The next two sets were all in favor of the visiting team. Colby-Sawyer was consistent on both sides of the net and grabbed the third and fourth sets, 25-7 and 25-17

 Manhattanville 3, Lasell 0

 Roberts and Perez Diaz contributed to the offense in the second match against Manhatanville with seven kills each. Perez Diaz posted another double-double with 13 digs in the match. 

 Valiants senior Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) led the offensive charge for the visiting team. She finished with a match-high 15 kills.

 The first set was close until the Valiants took control at 15-10. They continued on to end the set on a 10-5 run.

 The second and third set were similar to the first. Lasell started each set with fight but the Valiants offense was overpowering. The visiting team won sets two and three by scores of 25-13 and 25-16. 

 The Lasers will face Saint Joseph (Conn.) back in the Athletic Center on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. The Valiants will play Mount Saint Mary next on Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m.
