WVB: Lasell drops non-conference match at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) pounded 13 kills with a .455 attack percentage Wednesday evening as Bridgewater State University downed Lasell University, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears won by set scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20, improving their season record to 2-1. Lasell drops to 1-4.

Sophomore Kiana Perez Diaz (Juncos, P.R.) had a solid match for the Lasers, finishing with team-highs of 10 kills and nine digs. Senior Amanda DiLeonardo (West Haven, Conn.) contributed six kills for Lasell and sophomore Corina Lombardi (York, Maine) chipped in with four winners. Sophomore Meg Roberts (Newington, Conn.) was good for three kills and seven digs.

The teams were tied at 13-all midway through the first set, but BSU went on a 10-2 run to pull away to the set victory. Lasell held a 15-14 lead midway through the second set, but the Bears rattled off seven consecutive points to pull ahead 21-15. The Lasers couldn't recover and dropped the second set.

The score was tied 9-9 in the third set before Bridgewater State slowly pulled away to a 19-13 lead. The Lasers made a comeback attempt with five consecutive points to cut the deficit to 19-18, but the Bears answered with five straight of their own to make it 24-18, and then closed out the match.

Lasell faces another Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent on Saturday, September 7, when the Lasers host Fitchburg State University in the home opener at the Lasell Athletic Center at 1 p.m.
