WVB: Lasell drops first two matches at Keuka Invitational

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Lasell University women's volleyball team was defeated in its first two matches of the season Friday evening, which took place at the Keuka College Invitational in central New York. The Lasers were swept in the opening match by Union College (N.Y.), 3-0, and were taken down in the nightcap by Rowan University, 3-1.

The Lasers dropped the first match to Union by scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-15. After dropping the first two sets to Rowan, 25-14 and 25-11, Lasell got on the board with a 25-22 victory in the third set. The Profs closed out the match with a 25-15 verdict in the fourth set.

Sophomore Kiana Perez Diaz (Juncos, P.R.) led the Lasers with five kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Corina Lombardi (York, Maine) added four kills and sophomore Meg Roberts (Newington, Conn.) chipped in with three winners. Sophomore setter Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) contributed a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs.

Roberts was the top hitter for Lasell against Rowan, making nine kiils, while adding 13 digs. Perez Diaz cranked eight kills along with a team-high 17 digs. Langan made 24 set assists, and junior Alysha Rentas (Athol, Mass.) also reached double figures with 11 digs.

The Lasers will play two more matches in the tournament on Saturday, facing Hilbert College at noon and host Keuka at 2 p.m.
