Lasell Women’s Volleyball down Norwich for GNAC road victory

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Lasell College women's volleyball team defeated Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday night, posting a 3-1 victory in Andrews Hall.

Set number one was a back and forth battle, as Norwich and Lasell made just five attack errors apiece. With the score set at 23-22 late, the Lasers managed to put up back-to-back kills from Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) and Meghan Roberts (Newington, Conn.) to seal up the 25-22 set win.

Norwich fared better in the second set, as the Cadets rattled off a 7-0 run to close out a 25-20 set win and even things back up at 1-1. Set three looked to also be trending in the Cadets favor as they opened up play with a 6-0 run right off the bat. The Lasers came storming back, however, and the game saw several lead changes down the stretch. Norwich held a tenuous 21-20 lead late, but Lasell took four of the next five points to lock up a pivotal 25-22 win.

Lasell commanded set four, holding a 23-16 lead late. Norwich rallied for three straight points to cut it to 23-19, but the Lasers notched two straight points to take the set and the match 25-19.

Freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) led the Lasers with a game-high 18 kills on 59 attacks. Roberts contributed 14 kills while Olivia Addington recorded 13 kills and 21 digs. Freshman Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) paced the attack with 43 assists.

Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) and Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the Cadets attack once again with nine kills apiece. Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) had a great night defensively with 29 digs, the third highest single-game total in Norwich history. She now sits sixth all-time with 696 career digs.

Lasell moves to 10-12 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC on the year, while the loss drops Norwich down to 6-10 and a 1-5 mark in the conference. The Lasers return home to host Emmanuel on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on  Senior Day at the Lasell Athletic Center. Next up for the Cadets is a road trip to Simmons College for a conference tri-match with the hosting Sharks and the Bluejays of St. Joseph (Conn.) starting at 2:00 p.m.
