Lasell Women’s Volleyball sweeps Anna Maria and Saint Joseph’s (Maine)

PAXTON, Mass. – Senior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) recorded 19 kills and 16 digs Saturday to help the Lasell College women's volleyball team to a pair of straight-set Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victories over Anna Maria College and Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and Anna Maria's Fuller Center.

The Lasers swept the host Amcats in the opening match by scores of 25-2, 25-12 and 25-19, and then posted the sweep over Saint Joe's by scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-21.

Lasell has won five matches in a row and nine of its last 11, improving its record to 9-12 overall and 5-2 in the GNAC, tied with Colby-Sawyer College for third place in the conference. Saint Joe's, which swept Anna Maria in the final match of the day, is now 6-11 and 3-4 while the Amcats are now 3-15 and 0-5.

Addington posted nine kills in the win over Anna Maria, and 10 winners in the triumph over Saint Joseph's.  She had a .240 attack percentage (19-7-50) for the day, along with 16 digs and four blocks.

After the decisive victory in the first set against the Amcats, Lasell got some playing time for the reserves. Freshman Juliana Denning (Lathrop, Calif.) went on to post a team-high 10 kills and three blocks with a .571 attack percentage (10-2-14), and junior Kelly Cappitella (East Haddam, Conn.) added eight kills, four service aces and a .278 attack percentage (8-3-18). Freshman Meghan Roberts (Newington, Conn.) chipped in with five kills (5-1-9) and three blocks and sophomore libero Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) made 16 digs.

Freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) led the Lasers against Saint Joseph's with 11 kills, Addington added 10 winners and Denning and Roberts followed with five each. Perez and Addington posted double-doubles with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, and freshman Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added a double-double of her own with 24 assists and 12 digs.

Lasell looks to keep the momentum going on Wednesday with a GNAC match at Norwich University (7:00 p.m.) before playing six straight home contests.
