Lasell Women’s Volleyball overpowers Pine Manor

NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) set the school record for service aces Thursday night as Lasell College powered past Pine Manor College, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Lasell won its fourth straight match to improve to 4-10 overall while Pine Manor drops to 0-6. The Lasers won by scores of 25-8, 25-0, and 25-11.

Langan finished with 14 aces, breaking the school mark of 11 set by Heather Rose at Thomas College in 2006. She served every point of the second set as the Lasers blanked the Gators in the set. Lasell also broke the team record for aces in a match with 34, eclipsing the mark of 25 set against Albertus Magnus in 2007.

Freshman Meghan Roberts (Newington,  Conn.) led the Lasers with five kills and .333 attack percentage (5-2-9). Sophomore Katie Schneider (Covina, Calif.) had a team-high six digs, and Langan totaled 15 set assist. Lasell's top two hitters, senior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) and freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, P.R.), played just one set apiece and combined for four kills.

Lasell went on a nine-point spurt in the first set to turn a 4-4 score into a 13-4 lead. Pine Manor tried to come back with three unanswered points, but the Lasers took 12 of the next 13 points to close out the set.

After Lasell swept every point of the second set, the Gators were tied at 4-4 in the third set. But the night belonged to the home team, as the Lasers ran off eight straight points and 13 of 14 to run away with the set and the match.

The Lasers return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action this Saturday in New London, N.H., facing Rivier University at 1:00 and host Colby-Sawyer College at 3:00 p.m.
