Rhode Island College Spoils Home Opener in Women's Volleyball

Newton, Mass. - The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team handed the Lasers a 3-0 defeat in the home opener for Lasell. The Anchorwomen used an efficient offensive attack to pull out the victory, winning 25-15, 25-7 and 25-11. The victory improves Rhode Island College to 3-9 on the year, while Lasell fell to 0-11.

Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) finished with 13 kills and Adriana Ambari (Beacon Falls, Conn.) tallied 10 kils for Rhode Island College, who also got an outstanding performance from setter Jessica Ho (Providence, R.I.), who dished out 28 assists on the night. Heather Longley (North Granby, Conn.) lead the hosts with three kills, and four other Lasers notched two kills apiece.

The two teams traded points to start the opening set, and were level at 12-12 before Rhode Island College ran off 13 of the final 16 points to close out Lasell 25-15. The second set saw the hosts struggle to find their footing early, as RIC jumped out to a 13-1 lead and didn't look back. Lasell fell behind again in the third set, trailing 17-2 before staging a rally by scoring seven out of the next 10 points to cut the deficit to 20-9. The Lasers were unable to build on their momentum, falling 25-11 in the final set.

Next up for the Anchorwomen is a trip to Western New England University for a 7pm match, and Lasell will be back in action on Wednesday September 19th, when they host Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup at 6pm.
