Anchorwomen Weigh Down Lasers with Loss in Five Sets

PROVIDENCE, RI-  Despite superior double-double performances by seniors Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) and Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY), the Lasell College Lasers were hit with a 3-2 non-conference loss to Rhode Island College on Tuesday night.  The Lasers fell behind 2-1 after three sets (25-22, 22-25, 19-25) before returning to win the fourth game in extra points (26-24).  The deciding game ended in favor of the hosts (15-10) at the Murray Center.

Drapeau has been a threat at the net all season and continued to roll with a terrific 20 kills, a .567 attack percentage, and three blocks against the Anchorwomen.  She completed her double-double with 11 digs.

Crozier also dug up 11 balls and added 43 assists for her fifth double-double of the year.

Defensively, freshman Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) collected a match-best 20 digs while senior Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) contributed with 15 more.  Offensively, senior Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) and freshman Alexis Chappell (Quincy, MA) put away 14 and 10 kills respectively.  Barrett's .414 clip was also an impressive factor in the game, as was her three solo and three assisted blocks.

For the Anchorwomen, Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI)  and Marina Stoermer (Seattle, WA) carried the brunt of the work at the net with a combined 44 of Rhode Island's 60 total kills between them.  The duo also handled the bulk of the work in the back court with 21 total digs combined.  Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) added 44 assists in the victory.

Lasell (6-6, 0-0 GNAC) will open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this weekend at Norwich University in a tri-match with Emmanuel College. The Lasers and the Cadets will meet at 12:00 p.m. and the Lasers and the Saints will follow at 2:00 p.m.
