Crozier Named Tournament MVP as Lasers Become Newbury Invitational Champions

Brookline, MA- Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) was named Newbury Invitational Most Valuable Player after the Lasers had a perfect 4-0 weekend and became the champion of the 1st annual tournament, hosted by Newbury College. Lasell dropped just one set over the weekend to the hosting Nighthawks in a 3-1 match, while sweeping Sage, Bard, and Johnson State, 3-0, to dominate the competition.

 

Crozier totaled 116 assists over the weekend in a fantastic showing from the senior setter. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by senior middle hitter Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) who finished the two day tournament with 33 kills.

 

The second day of competition began with a 3-0 match against Bard during which Drapeau had a game-best10 kills, on 21 total swings, with just one error.  The senior middle earned an attack percentage of .429 for the three set match that the Lasers won 25-12, 25-19, 25-17.

 

Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) added nine kills in the match and Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) made 14 defensive digs, a team-high. Crozier handed out 28 helpers in the contest, adding six digs, and Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) put down four points on her serve alone.

 

In the second match of the day, which sealed Lasell's championship title, Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) put down 10 kills and swung for a .364 clip against Sage.  Crozier distributed 28 assists and added four service aces, good for a match-high in each category, along with Geary earning a match-high 10 digs.

 

Drapeau also had a strong contest, registering seven kills and adding two assisted and two solo blocks.  The Lasers defeated Bard by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-20.

 

Sage finished the weekend with a 3-1 record, and finished as the runner-up of the invitational.

 

Lasell's overall record lands at 4-4 after the weekend contest and they will face Westfield State in their next contest on Thursday, September 15th.  The march will mark their first home game and will be played in the Lasell College Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
