Drapeau Named All-Tournament at Springfield

Springfield, Mass.- Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) was selected to the Springfield College Invitational All-Tournament team this weekend after combining for 31 kills, four aces, 12 digs, and six total blocks.  The Lasers finished the weekend at 0-4 after three matches on Saturday against Brandeis University, Roger Williams University, and Westfield State College.

 

The first match between the Judges and the Lasers resulted in a 3 set loss for Lasell by scores of 25-11, 25-10, 25-10.  Drapeau had four kills in the match, while teammates Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) and Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) each added three apiece. 

 

In addition, Crozier supplied the team with nine assists and five digs, and Geary produced eight additional digs.

 

Senior captain and libero Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) came up with a game-high 19 digs.

 

The second match pitted the Lasers against the Seahawks of Roger Williams.  The Seahawks took the match in three sets though the Lasers kept it close (25-13, 25-22, 25-18).  

 

First year middle hitter Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) hit a .296 clip and swung for 10 total kills in the match.  Sophomore Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) produced six more hard hits to the floor and Drapeau completed five.    Crozier closed out the match with 21 assists and Major added 14 more dug balls.

 

In the final contest of the day, Drapeau came out on fire against the Owls of Westfield State.  Drapeau collected 18 kills on 43 swings, marking a .372 clip for the match.  She also provided three solo blocks, two aces and four digs in the four sets. 

 

The Lasers went down 25-12 in the first set before rebounding to take game three 25-21. Unfortunately, even though they kept it tight through the fourth game, the Owls took back the lead to win 25-22 in the fourth.


Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY) played in all four sets, tallying six kills, one ace, nine digs, and one block over that span.   Geary and Nichols each put down five kills, with Geary adding in 14 digs. 

 

Major prowled the court picking up 23 digs in the contest, and Crozier finished the match with 30 total assists.

 

The Lasers remain on the road, traveling to Lesley University on Wednesday, September 9th for their next contest with the Lynx.
