
Boston, Mass.-The Lasell College women's volleyball team played in their final contest of the 2009 season during the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference post-season tournament on Tuesday. The Lasers were defeated by eventual conference title champions Emerson College, 3-0.
The Lasers had a close first game, falling by just three points, 25-22. After that set, the Lions took over with convincing sets of 25-12 and 25-16.
Sophomore outside hitter Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) produced five kills in the contest for the Lasers. Fellow sophomore Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) was the next closest in total kills with four through the three games. Drapeau, the team leader in kills and blocks this season, also put down four solo blocks on the defensive side for Lasell.
Lasell's sole senior and team libero, Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) led the team with nine digs defensively in her final collegiate match for Lasell. Major finished the season with an incredible 619 total digs this season, averaging 5.73 per set.
Also contributing to the Lasers offense were Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) and Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY). The two put down four kills in the losing effort.
Sophomore setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) put up 14 helpers for the Lasers. Crozier and Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) each had four digs apiece.
The Lasers end their season having finished 8th overall in the GNAC with a 5-7 league record and a 10-23 overall record.
