T&F: Lasers Compete at GNAC Championships; Huckans and Silvia Take Gold

Boston, MA – The Lasell Track and Field team competed at the GNAC Indoor Championships on Sunday, with the men finishing in fourth place with 32 points, and the women in fifth with 48 points.

The highlights of the day came from the women's side of things, as Riley Silvia and Jasmine DePina, both competing in their first meet of the season, finished in first and second place respectively in the shot put with personals records of 10.34m and 10.29m. The other winner for the Lasers was Juliana Huckans, as she finished in first place of the Pole Vault with a mark of 2.60m, breaking her own school record that she set earlier this season. All three of Silvia, DePina, and Huckans are multi-sport athletes at Lasell, with Silvia and Huckans being members of the women's soccer team, and DePina a member of the women's basketball team.

The Lasers also took 7th and 8th in the women's shot put with Erika Oldham and Savannah Werner each setting new PRs with marks of 9.32m and 9.12m respectively. A fifth Laser Pred in that event in Jenna Sargent, as she achieved a mark of 8.59m Elsewhere in the throwing pit, Connor Parker placed fourth in the weight throw with a season's best, 10.88m. Alex McFarlane would set a PR in that event at 8.39m.

Outside of Huckans, the rest of the team had a great day in the jumping events, as Nathaniel Gonzlez set a new PR in the high jump at 1.80m, good for second place. Dillon Ramirez also PRed with a mark of 1.55m. In the triple jump, Damali Waugh finished 8th with a jump of 8.97m.

On the track, the Lasers were just as successful, four different Lasers PRed in the 800m with Michael Curran running a 2:11.49 for the men, and then Emily Varga (2:55.99), Adrianna Tassone (3:01.80), and Mikayla Bokis (3:06.92) for the women. Eftihia Fotos would set a season best in the event at 3:22.55.

The relay teams also found success, as the women's 4x400m team of Kayoni Jordan, Hanna Babek, Julianna Huckans, and Madilyn Ebbinghaus set a new school record with a time of 4:31.20, which placed them in 5th. The men's team of Jordan Woodley, Spencer Villinski, Darius Vincent, and Evan Lewis posted a time of 3:40.00, good for third in the race, and third best in program history.

Many of the members of those relay teams also competed in other events, as Vincent set a new PR in the 400m with a time of 55.31s, while Lewis finished 6th in that event at 54.09. meanwhile, Jordan, Ebbinghaus, and Babek finished in spots four, five and six in the 60m Dash with times of 8.34s, 8.36s, and 8.62s in the finals. Ebbinghaus and Babek also competed in the 200m, and finished in fourth and sixth respectively with times of 27.55s and 27.65s, both personal bests. Woodley also posted a personal best in the 200m with a time of 23.83s. Woodley also competed in the 60m hurdles event, which he placed fourth in with a personal best time of 9.08s, good for fourth, one spot ahead of Spencer Villinski who finished 5th with a PR time of 9.27s.

Rounding out the events with the distance runners was Luke Bullock in the mile with a PR of 5:09.68, and Patrick Carbone with a 6th place finish in the 3000m race with a time of 10:14.07.
