WT&F: Stanbury, Sanders lead Lasers at Brandeis Tri-meet

WESTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's track & field team made its first official appearance of the 2021 spring season Saturday afternoon, posting some solid performances at a tri-meet hosted by Brandeis University at Weston High School. The meet included Lasell, Brandeis and Babson College. The final score in the women's meet was Babson 62, Brandeis 59, and Lasell 25.

The top performances by the Laser women came from junior Elise Stanbury (Washington, N.J.), who took first place in two throwing events, and senior Taymise Sanders (Malden, Mass.), who won first place in the 100-meter dash.

Stanbury took top honors in the shot put with a mark of 9.06 meters (29'9.75") and the discus with a mark of 27.74 meters (91'0"). Three other Lasers competed in the same events, as senior Hannah Besaw (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was third in the shot (7.82m, 25'8") and fifth in the discus (10.81m, 35'5"); junior Brooke Damboise (Bolton, Conn.) was fourth in both the shot (7.82m, 25'8") and the discus (15.19m, 49'10"); and junior Olivia Faulkner (Seabrook, N.H.) was third in the discus (16.20m, 53'2") and fifth in the shot put (6.51m, 21'4.25").

Also competing for the Laser women were three other entries in the 100 meters – junior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.), fourth in 14.51 seconds; junior Itzel Torres (Milford, Mass.), seventh in 15.19 seconds; and freshman Linda Borge (Oak Bluffs, Mass.), eighth in 17.19 seconds. Junior Averie Greeley represented the Lasers in the 3000 meters, finishing in 15:29.03.

 Lasell will compete again on Sunday, April 25 at UMass Boston.
