Track and Field Races at USA Track and Field Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (2/19/17) – The Lasell men's and women's track and field teams competed at two events in Boston, Mass. this past weekend.

The women's team entered a 4x200 meter relay in the NCAA DIII New England Championships on Saturday hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The relay included Megan Stella (Warren, Mass.), Kathryn Czarniak (Beverly, Mass.), Lauren Lenahan (Weymouth, Mass.) and Ayumi Ranucci (Auburn, Maine), who all finished with a final time of 1:57.37.

On Sunday, 11 Lasers competed in the USA Track and Field Championships at Harvard University. Ranucci, Lenahan, and Alexandra Clancy (Beverly, Mass.) all competed in the sprinter races, as Ranucci and Clancy opened the event with the 60m dash. Ranucci made a PR with an 8.55 finish, placing 14th overall, while Clancy ran a 9.16, also a personal best in the event. Both sprinters then raced in the 200m, with Ranucci leading the pack, followed by Lenahan and Clancy.

Sophomore Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.) was the lone Laser on the women's side to compete in the field events, as she posted a 3.89m marker in the long jump.

On the men's side, Massimo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) led off with back-to-back sprints in the 60m and 200m. Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.J.) ran his first 800m race of the season, and posted a 2:02.45 finish, good for 16th place of 40 runners overall. Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.) ran the mile in 5:09.80, while Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.), Anthony Liriano (Elmira, N.Y.), and Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) competed in the field events. Nixon made a 5.46m long jump, before Liriano threw for a 10.45m mark in the shot put.

Both teams will now gear up for the outdoor season, starting on Saturday, April 1 at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite hosted by Fitchburg State.
