Lasers Compete in Panther Invitational at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H.- The men's and women's track and field teams shipped up to Plymouth State University for the Panther Invitational at the AllWell North field house on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.) competed first in the meet for the Lasers in the long jump pit, and placed 11th overall with a jump of 5.46 meters.  Sophomore Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.) placed 8th overall with 4.00m jump, which was good for one point in the team scoring for the women. 

The track events started with the 3000-meter run where sophomore Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) placed 7th overall, scoring five points to the team totals.  Next up was the 60-meter dash where sophomore Benjamin Lane (Rutland, V.T.) and Josh Nixon both moved onto the finals with times of 7.40 and 7.74 in the prelims.  In the finals, Lane ran a blistering 7.39 which ties the current school record and Nixon bested his prelim time running a 7.68.  Freshman Karli Manship (Pittsfield, Mass.) placed 10th overall in the women's mile, while classmate Mark Greenwald (Monmouth, Maine) placed 11th overall for the men.  Junior Kyle Vonick (Weathersfield, Conn.) placed 3rd overall in the men's 500-meter run, adding four points to the men's team total. 

The final event for the Lasers was the 200-meter dash, where the freshman trio of Megan Stella (Warren, Mass.), Katy Czarniak (East Bridewater, Mass.), and Alexandra Clancy (Beverly, Mass) all competed for the Lasers.  Stella led the way with her 30.63, Czarniak followed up with a 31.06, and Clancy rounded out the trio running a 31.87.  Freshman Massimo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) came in 5th overall in the men's 200 scoring two points for the men's team.  The men finished with 18 points finishing 5th overall and the women finished 6th overall.

The Lasers are back in action next weekend at Boston University for the Terrier Classic, where the women will compete on Friday and the men on Saturday.
