Newton, MA- The Lasers hosted GNAC rival Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Monday afternoon in a thrilling matchup. Lasell emerged victorious with a final score of 2-1, improving their conference record to 2-1-1.
From the outset, Lasell applied offensive pressure, registering five shots in the first half. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when Brianna Marrero scored her first goal as a Laser, heading in a corner kick delivered by Michelina D'Agostino. Despite attempts from the Monks to respond, Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth DaSilva made several spectacular saves, thwarting their efforts and keeping the lead intact.
In the second half, Saint Joseph's equalized with a goal from Sydney Gallop ten minutes after the break. However, Lasell's D'Agostino struck back, scoring the game-winning goal in the 80th minute, securing the hard-fought victory for the Lasers.
Overall, Lasell outshot Saint Joseph's 12-7 and dominated corner kicks with an impressive 8-1 advantage. DaSilva contributed significantly to the team's success, making three saves and delivering critical blocks early in the match.
