WSOC: Lasers defeat Monks

Newton, MA

The Lasell University women's soccer team defeated the Saint Joes Monks, 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. The Lasers improve to 7-4-1 and the Monks move to 5-7. 

The Lasers got on the board in the first half when Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, MA) shot the ball on target towards the net. The goalie could not contain the ball and the rebound fell to the feet of Camdyn LaMarre (Belgrade, ME). LaMarre then shot it into the net. 

The Monks almost tied the game up when they were given a free kick outside the box. Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, ME) took the shot from the free-kick spot, but the ball hit the post. 

The Monks got on the board later in the half. After a failed clear from Lasell.  Aaliyah Wilson-Falco (Winthrop, ME) found the ball at her feet and shot it into the goal from outside the box.

Lasell took the lead again in the 36th minute when Bobbi O'Guin converted from a penalty kick. 

The Monks responded with six minutes left in the half when Keelin Sweeney (Hollis, ME) took the ball after a failed clear from Lasell. Sweeney then shot the ball into the net to level the game at 2-2

Lasell regained the lead in the 52nd minute when Michelina D'Agostino (Longmeadow, MA) did a give-and-go with Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, MA). When D'Agostino got the ball, she flicked it over the Monk keeper to give the Lasers a 3-2 lead. 

The Lasers extended their lead in the 54th minute when they were granted a corner kick. Michelina D'Agostino took the corner and crossed the ball into the box. The ball bounced around and found its way to Camdyn LaMarre. LaMarre then shot the ball into the net. 

The Monks got one back in the 83rd minute when Shauna Clark (Oakland, ME) crossed the ball into Kate Russell. Russel (Kennebunk, MA) was then able to shoot the ball into the net. 

When the final whistle blew, Lasell won 4-3. 

Laser goalie Kyli Swan (Queen Creek, AZ) finished the game with five saves for Lasell. 

The Monk's goalie, Carly Downey (Yarmouth, ME) had eight saves.  

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Providence, RI to take on Johnson and Wales at 7 p.m. Saint Joes will also play on Wednesday as they host Dean College at 7 p.m.
