WSOC: Lasers defeat Pride

Weston, MA

The Lasell University women's soccer team defeated the Regis Pride 1-0 on a rainy Wednesday night at Regis Stadium. The Lasers improve to 6-4-1 and 6-0-1 in GNAC play and the Pride move to 6-4-1 and 5-2-0.

In the first half, Lasell's best chance came in the 33rd minute when Serena Speight (Biddeford, MA) shot the ball from outside the box, but the Pride goalie got a hand on it which resulted in a corner kick for the Lasers. Michelina D'Agostino (Longmeadow, MA) took the corner kick for the Lasers but the team was not able to convert the opportunity.  At the half, the game remained scoreless.

After a foul by Regis in the 58th minute Lasell was granted a free kick. Michelina D'Agostino took the kick and curved it towards the lower left corner of the net but the Regis goalie was there to save it.

Lasell was granted another corner kick in the 71st minute. Michelina D'Agostino took the shot again and curved it in on goal, but right before the ball crossed the line, the Pride goalie was able to make the save.

Finally, in the 84th minute, Serena Speight broke the tie when she launched a rocket from outside the box and found the back of the net.  The final score was 1-0 in favor of the Lasers.

Laser goalie Kyli Swan (Queen Creek, AZ) finished the game with one save for Lasell, and the Pride goalie Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, CA) had three saves
